Ayurveda & Autumn

🍂In Ayurveda autumn is seen as the season of transformation, but also of deficiency. When the weather starts to deteriorate, the body struggles to protect itself and stay balanced. According to Ayurveda, autumn is the season governed by the Vata (Air) dosha.

Signs of Vata imbalance include nervousness, anxiety, panic, fear, dry or chapped skin. constipation, gas, bloating, dry, hard stools, aversion to cold and wind, difficulty tolerating loud noises, light, interrupted sleep, spacey or scattered mind.

To balance Vata, we create the opposite qualities in life—wet, warm, sheltered, grounded, heavy, slow, and regular…. and that means lots of warm, nurturing, oily & unctuous foods & practices.

And why do we need to oil our heads in Autumn?

Ayurveda sees us as an upside-down tree. Our head, called the śiras in Sanskrit, is equated with the root of this tree. Like the roots of a tree holding it firm to the ground and absorbing the nutrients, it is from our head that we collect most of our nourishment- both for the body and for the brain. So adequate protection is key to stable physical & mental health ..
